Facilities
The apartment is spotlessly clean, private, modern, upper-level apartment on a wonderfully sunny, restful, half-acre (2000 m2) rainforest property on Auckland’s urban edge just 25 minutes to the heart of Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city and 25 minutes to the rugged West Coast.
This is indeed a great find and we enjoyed our stay the first night so much we decided to stay here again the last night of this trip before we flew back home! We will certainly be back!
City-Bush Retreat is blessed with a very unusual combination of qualities – surrounded by rainforest but with lots of sun. Right on the edge of the city but with the qualities of calm and peacefulness you would normally only find in a remote rural retreat.
The apartment opens out onto spacious, totally private, decks with easy ground-level access. You cannot be seen from the road or neighbouring properties.
City-Bush Retreat offers very comfortable open-plan living with a fully equipped self-catering modern kitchen. Both the lounge and dining areas can be opened wide onto the decks to make spacious indoor/outdoor living spaces.
White fluffy towels and a top quality Sealy Executive-Sleep mattress add a touch of real comfort to the bedroom’s quality feel.
The air conditioning is very effective and there is also a log fire for those cooler nights – there is nothing like a real log fire to add that extra special feeling of a home away from home.
Pantry
There will be provisions for a continental style breakfast in the pantry and refrigerator to get you started – yogurt, milk, bread, spreads, muesli etc. If the BBQ is your preference there is a BBQ right outside the door.
Off-street parking for one vehicle is in the car-port at the front door.

The environment
In addition to rainforest and bird-life there is a stream running through the property which has a small population of New Zealand’s fresh water crayfish (the kura – 60 to 70 mm long (about 3 inches) and their green eyes give them away on a dark night! Their pool is surrounded by banks with many interesting Glow Worm displays.
Titirangi Village and surrounds
It’s a short four minute drive to Titirangi Village with cafés, restaurants, galleries and shops. 10 minutes to local beaches and top golf course. The Village has a character all it’s own that harks back to the artists and artisans of the early days of Titirangi. These qualities make it an unmatched regional treasure: quirky, comfortable, interesting, with everything you would need close at hand.
Fantastic scenery makes the area a favourite with photographers, writers, artists, musicians and nature lovers. There is a stunning variety of landscapes, birds & botanical material and Titirangi is still an authentic “source point” for metro Auckland. This should be no surprise given Titirangi’s historical role as Auckland’s “artists precinct”. Colin McCahon one of New Zealand’s greatest and most loved artists lived here and the walking/jogging tracks at your door have nurtured thousands of keen joggers and a few of New Zealand’s more illustrious Olympians.
The West Coast beaches are world famous for their surf and fishing. And you are only 25 minutes to Auckland CBD and international airport.
